In the anointing of the damned, the message reverberates more than the record.

Vinous light shines their eyes as they offer desecration to the gods of politics. It is impossible to believe the worst. Newt Gingrich is the last disciple standing. He is not particularly honest and doesn't share their values but they are not worshipping him, they are deifying his ideas, for he has the experience needed to change federal policies. His anticipation for presidential longing is fortified in the deepening dawn. His zeal and blended sighs string a despairing displeasure in the passages and caverns of the temple.

And praises ascend unto the deities of infidelities and unfaithfulness.

Evangelical Christians stand dazed and confused as Newt Gingrich surges in the polls, yet they embrace his story of penitence and hoped-for reclamation. The only one in this despondent host capable of devising a sentence, his sharply anti-Washington rhetoric and unorthodox views persuade others that he's willing to blame the system and make needed changes. He is not a reliable or trustworthy leader, but he has the best experience to be president and handle world crises.

How low can one kneel?

Discordant and intermittent in his four years as House Speaker, Gingrich is the overpowering choice as best debater. Theories thrive with varying notches of assurance, but Gingrich articulates conservative positions so convincingly that he fascinates hard-right voters willing to oversee his record of contradictions and eccentricities. He possesses unquenchable intellectual thirst, sporadic political instinct, and media mastery.

While critics recap voters that Gingrich favored bank bailouts, an individual mandate to buy health insurance, a bipartisan push to combat climate change and made millions of dollars in Washington with a Freddie Mac contract, saints are rapidly being converted to sinners.

But who else would one vote for in this campaign of ideas?

For Republicans, the importance of the campaign is simply to beat Obama and make him a one term president. The issues really don’t matter, even if Gingrich’s real political credentials are weakened by his personal history.

He's had three wives. So what? Should he eat the flesh of bulls as his own sacrifice at the altar of perfidy? He received a large share of the blame for the 1995 government shutdown, when the public saw him as a stubborn politician more willing to allow the government to run out of funds than to compromise, but there is power and redemption in the blood of goats. He can be forgiven. He seeks approval from peculiar places but politics make strange bedfellows. Give him a break.

Has doom turned into a day of deliverance in conservative circles?

Awake from your slumber and greet the raging dawn. It is morning in America but dark clouds encircle the horizon. Prayers ascend unto the gods of the afflicted and, regardless of the assaults to come, Newton Leroy Gingrich, double adulterer, enters Washington politics.
